Fish Project
by Alison Taylor of Alison Designs, Harlaxton Lincs.

To achieve optimum results and produce a reasonable two-sided effect to yourembroidery, pre-load bottom bobbins with the same quality & colour thread as you usein the needle. I recommend you use a good quality thread such as Madeira 40.

Materials required:-

a) "CraftMistress" water-soluble fabric (either 1 x layer of"Romeo 2x layers of "Guliette").
b) 7" diameter embroidery hoop.
c) Various colours of embroidery thread.
d) A light-fade pen.

Helpful hints:-

Prepare your machine for free running stitches. You may change thread colour as little oras often as you wish, but remember to load the bottom bobbin with the same colour threadas the needle.

Remember to make sure your stitches interlock. Any stitching that is not linked will fallapart when the fabric is dissolved.

Instructions:-

1.    Place CraftMistress water soluble film in the embroideryhoop so that it is drum tight.

2. Place hoop over diagram of fish (Fig 1), and trace the fish drawing onto the CraftMistress film using the light-fade pen (except for the eye outline).

Sew along drawn lines with running stitch, ensuring stitched lines interlock (Fig 2).

4. FACE

Fill face area:-
a) Starting at top of the head, stitch a zig-zag pattern with running stitches, across the width of the face until face area is filled (Fig 3).

Fig 3 b) Using a slightly longer running stitch, zig-zag again in opposite direction (i.e. from top to bottom & back again) in a curved fashion as shown (Fig 4). You can oversew at this stage slightly, to obtain a satisfactory cover of stitching.

Fig 4

5. FINS
Using same stitch method as in (4), fill both fin areas (Fig 5).
Fig 5
6.    TAIL

Using a short running stitch, lay down a base mesh over the tail area (Fig 6)

    .

7. Using a longer running stitch, fill each tail section separately, sewing in the opposite direction (Fig 7).

Varying the length of stitches slightly at this stage will give a more interesting effect.

8.    SCALES
Using free running stitches, fill each scale section using the same method as in (4), ensuring you overlap each section with the adjoining one (Fig 8).

9.    EYE
Sew the eye using satin stitch, starting at the centre point of the eye, moving to the outer edge and back again, rotating until the eye area is covered. Satin stitch pupil area using a different colour.

10.    MOUTH
Cover mouth area using the same method as in (4), THEN satin stitch over the top (Fig 10).

11. OUTLINE
Bratislava hotels Using free running stitch, sew along outlines. You will have to repeat this several times to obtain a satisfactory density of cover (Fig 11).

NB: Along outer edges of fish, stitch just inside the embroidery to ensure you "lock" the stitches together, paying particular attention to the outline of the mouth

Remove embroidery from hoop and trim off excess CraftMistress film. Removeremainder of the film by holding embroidery under cold running water. Best results will beachieved by soaking the embroidery in warm water for approximately two hours. Remove fishfrom water and dry flat.
