Roots and Antennaes
You live your life like you’ve already died
The hot glow of resurrection in your eyes
You sank into valleys
On cold expeditions
Vowing not to return without
Your bold rendition
Of an old song
Played for so long
It became your body
And you shed from the stalk like skin
Grated gently when the hunger set in
You may have been a waste of space—
A filler with a fodder face—
But you tunneled out
You AWOLed
Your courage called you
Just in
time
hotel rooms BalatonfuredAnd oh to live
With roots and antennae
Umbilically breathing the world’s
Unabashed honesty
But I was taught to crave
Autonomy
Efficiency
And I am still teething on the
Freedom they
Promised me
