Helium Balloon

I held your hand
The ribbon attached
To you,
The helium balloon
I imagined I would let you go
To dwindle on a blue afternoon
But I remembered the sun
With his hot hoisted gun
And I saw your sweet body descend
With the sound of sorrow contained in an instant
As you stepped onto hard ground again

I held your hand
The ribbon attached
To you,
The helium balloon
I imagined I would never
Let go
Of this body this blue afternoon
But your head became heavy
And the air couldn’t hold you
As all of your spirit slowed
And I cried “why are you weary?
We have only known an instant”
It was years though

Feel free to hover
Id like the shade
For my wintered skin
Ill let your air out slowly
I’ve learned to hold
With an open hand

I held your hand the ribbon attached to you
