Dirty Boots
Every time
The sun shines
After a spot of rain
I remember the time
It was trouble to find
Some way to see you again
And you reeled me in
You took me out the water
When I told you to come in
But when we calmed down we found
That I can breathe
And you can swim
And your photograph learned altitudes
From my pocket carried in solitude
Your smell learned how to linger
As I plotted my escape
I was lousy with all the trouble
A troubled girl could make
I stole your sunshine baby
Saved it for those rainy days
And if the clouds still haven’t cleared yet
Well I understand that grey
I’m so glad
You laid out the welcome mat
Then with my dirty dirty boots
I stomped all over that
Sorry sorry baby
For that stinging tailspin
I didn’t want you out but I couldn’t let you in
There’s a reason for the loving that’ll break you clear through
It clears the space baby
Now I have room
